FAQs

What crafts/art is allowed in the studio?

1

At the moment, the only two that we do NOT have space for are wheel pottery and wood working.

We have designed our studio so that there is a range of individual work areas, as well as large tables for cutting/measuring. Any craft from jewelry, scrapbooking, sewing, drawing, digital design, and more are suitable for these spaces.

We also have a dedicated space for ceramic hand building and painting/glazing.

All of these spaces can be expanded/modified if need be given the crafts of our members.

What is a multi-use tool?

2

Will I have a dedicated space if I become a member?

What is your kiln firing policy?

These include things like pottery tools, paint brushes, markers, crayons/pencils, needles, bobbins, Cricut tools/ pens, Cricut mats, embroidery hoops, scissors, pliers, easels- just to name a few, Basically if it can be used over and over again, then it is included in the membership.

What machines will the studio have?

3

As a member, you will be allowed to use our sewing machines, Serger, embroidery machine, Cricut machine, Cricut heat press, irons, and clay slab roller- plus many more.

Please note that while there will be a monitor during open studio time to help with trouble shooting and general questions, they will not be doing an in-depth tutorial on how to use a machine for the very first time.

If you are a member and wish to learn to work a new machine, you can let us know and we can schedule a time for a lesson or you can join a work shop. We want our members to feel like they can try everything, but we just need to make sure we are doing it in a safe and effective way!

What about things like paint or fabric?

4

The studio will be stocked in single use items as well, such as acrylic paint, Stroke and Coat/ Underglazes, thread, paper, etc. that can be used by members. However these may not be the brands you prefer and we cannot guarantee the stock of each item.

There will be a small collection of fabric available for sale. These are scrap pieces, most a half yard or fat quarter size.

There will be a limited stock of clay available for purchase. All clay comes from Davens, and will include a light body clay and a dark body clay.

All of our monthly members will each be given a dedicated shelf in our storage room. It will only be accessible to members and employees. Shelves must be kept tidy and organized. Work stations and tables are for everyone and not dedicated to any one member.

Size Limits

Due to the small capacity of our Olympic 1818H kiln, all pieces must fit within:

  • 16” length × 12” width × 12” height

  • Please note that we will only fire maximum-size pieces occasionally. If you are someone who works in large sculptural pieces, lanterns, serving size trays, etc. this may not be the studio for you.

  • Our kiln and studio are ideal for those who enjoy making small to medium size functional and sculptural size pieces- mugs, vases, bowls, plates, garden items, ornaments, tumblers, etc.

Pieces exceeding these dimensions will not be fired.

Firing Schedule

  • Kiln firings occur 1–2 times per week

  • Firings are done only when sufficient work is ready

  • No firings will take place during major holidays, which may extend turnaround times

Turnaround Time

We are a multi-use arts and crafts studio, not a dedicated ceramics studio.
Because of this:

  • Kiln access is limited

  • Turnaround times may be longer than ceramics-only studios

  • Delays should be expected, especially during busy periods

Volume of Work

  • At this time, we do not limit the number of pieces a member may submit for firing

  • However, this policy may change if we determine the kiln is being used primarily as a kiln-share service rather than supporting general studio use

Risk & Liability

Our kiln is located off-site, which may add to handling and transport time. While we take care in handling and firing all work, breakage can occur, as in any studio environment. The studio is not responsible for damage, loss, or unexpected firing results

General Expectations

  • Only approved ceramic materials may be fired

  • Work must be properly prepared and clearly labeled

  • The studio reserves the right to refuse pieces that may damage the kiln or other work

Policy Updates

  • As a studio, we reserve the right to update or modify this policy at any time as needed

By submitting work for firing, members acknowledge and accept these limitations
