Crazy for Crafts

Little Thistle Studio came from the idea that there is no better feeling in the world than learning how to make something with your own hands. The first time you have someone ask you “where did you learn that?” or “wait, YOU made that?” is a high that is untouchable.

The problem is that most people don’t have the time, space, or tools to learn a craft, or just work on one they already enjoy. Most of us don’t have a dedicated studio space, or room for hoards of yarn, Cricut vinyl, or fabric. Even more, most of us don’t want to invest in just ONE craft- we want to dip our toes into something new all the time.

With that, Little Thistle Studio was born. A space where people could take a workshop to learn something they have always wanted- like sewing, needle work, or hand building. A space where they could come and work on their kids birthday party decorations or school’s fundraiser, without having to buy all of that material or Cricut machine for just a one time thing. A space to host a girls craft night or art event. A space where kids could be messy. A space where adults could be kids.

A space where we all can be crafty.

Our Team

Rebecca Newcomer

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I am the human being behind Little Thistle Studio. Ever since I can remember, I have loved making things and learning new crafts. I have tried everything- from painting and sewing, to ceramics and wood working- and love it when people ask me “wait, you made that?!”

I am not a professionally trained artist. In fact, I am actually a nurse practitioner who has finally decided that my love of arts and crafts is something worth sharing and pursuing full time. I am the classic “how hard could it be” gal and love learning new skills and working with new mediums. I am as much a student as I am instructor, and can’t wait to continue to learn as this studio grows. I am also a mom to three amazing kids and married to a very supportive husband who can be crafty (when forced).

I can’t promise that my stuff is perfect. I can’ t promise I will know it all. But I can promise a space and community that loves mistakes, creations, and figuring out what to make next!

Victoria Kaplan

Victoria Kaplan is a ceramic artist and handbuilding instructor. Originally from South Florida, Victoria has a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Florida. Upon graduating, she taught high school art and art history for six years. She then spent two years working in museum education.

After moving to Atlanta, a brief stint in the corporate world, and becoming a mom, she was itching to make art again. She began taking ceramics classes at a studio near home, and later joined the staff as a studio monitor and eventually became an instructor for teen camps and handbuilding classes for adults.

It was here that Victoria and Rebecca, owner and founder of Little Thistle Studio, met and became friends. Victoria was thrilled to be asked to join the team and is excited to bring her experience and knowledge to Little Thistle Studio!
